seri muka yg x brape nk berseri?heh..

living in an alien land thousands miles away from home has made us, the true malaysians craving the traditional kueh so much...chewahh..intro jek tue..wut im trying to say is, last 2/3 wiks ke tah, me n anis hav fruitfully made our very first kueh seri muka..4 those who're quite sure how kueh seri muka looks like..google it loh!

the story began when we visited my foster parent's hse or i shall say my kakak n abg angkt here la, n k.eija taught us a simple and convenient way to make kueh seri muka. then we decided to try it ourselves. here's the recipe:

[bottom layer]
1. 2 1/2 cup glutinuos rice (soak for at least 1/2hr)

2. 1 cup thick coconut milk
3. salt to taste

Drain the rice and add in some water. (caution: water level must be only slightly higher than the rice level). cover the container with cling film and microwave for 5 mins. After the rice has smoothen a bit, add in the coconut milk and salt and mix them well. Leave in the microwave again for 2-4 mins. When it's done, Transfer the rice into a glass container/anything alike and press the rice down to level the surface. Set aside. (Make sure sapu mentega/margerine on the inside of the container first so it won't stick)

[top layer]
1. 1 1/2 cup sugar
2. 2 1/2 cup thick coconut cream
3. 4 1/4 teaspoon custard flour
4. 5 eggs
5. salt
6. pandan flavour/ green colourings / screwpine leaves juice

Combine all the ingredients above until well mixed. Strain. Then pour it onto the bottom layer prepared earlier. Microwave for 12-13mins. start off with the high heat the
n after 4-5 mins lower it down to medium high or medium.

tadaaa~~

Wanna knw the tragedy behind our seri muka?hehee..
well for a first timer, the taste was not bad at all i wud say..haha but the presentation was way off laa..1st, the top layer wasn't very smooth!we reckoned it ws because our cling film wasnt tight enuf. 2nd, the top layer ws SUPPOSED to be green but it turned out to be yellowish green instead..haha we thought it might be becoz of he custard colour tht overshadowed the green colorings. and 3rd, we cnt even cut the kueh coz the pulut ws too sticky! it's entirely our fault la cz we misunderstood the instruction :p we put in too much water..it's supposed to be "slightly higher than the glutinous rice level"..but we thought; "slightly higher than the normal rice water level"...

and there's also another funnier story which almost caused us to harm others..but let it remains secret la k..haha =)
up next: sushi! :)

Berbuka lebih 'uumph' dgn SeRunDing DaGing :)

Wut's there with candy floss???it'll only giv us cavity! we Malaysian got our very own special meat floss!but not so gud 4 those with high blood pressure n heart probs..hehe

Serunding daging has always been my favorite dish 4 buka puasa n raya..the dining table'll look "empty" without it..hehe So this time, my mom has decided to make our own homemade serunding..I said to myself "Why trouble?Jln TAR bersepah..cn jst buy loh, easy!"That was jst becoz im a lazy bumpy u see :p But my mom insisted n i was like..ok2 fine, it'll be fun though..hehe Here's the super-duper easy recipe:

Ingredients:
2.5kg of beef (cut into small pieces)
2kg shallots (cut into thin slices)
coconut milk (about 3 biji kelapa)
ginger
chillies (blended)
salt to taste

Err..not to forget, u also need 2 prepare urself a taste of endurance n patience(^_^)

1)Boil the meat until
tender. Recommended duration is about 5hrs.

2) Shred the meat into fine thin slices and set aside. NB:If u unfeignedly shred them with ur fingers like i did, with that amount of meat..it''ll probably take 3 weeks. Wut my dad did was smash/knock/whack the meat using this hammer-like kind of thing til it's flat n it'll be much3 easier to shred.

3) Heat up the wok. Combine the coconut milk n all the other ingredients.

4) Bring it to boil and then add in the shredded meat and some salt to taste.

5) Leave it boils until dry. NB:
Stir the mixture well every now and then. ( Esp at the base of the wok so it won't stick or get burnt)

6) Serve n eat well!! :p
