Off we go to Western Australia!!

Ola!

It's been a while since i last wrote about my travel and holiday. This time around, i managed to get a 6 days leave for an adventure to the western australia!!Weehu!

Booked the flight from AirAsia in May 2014 for a trip in October 2014. The 5 months wait is unbearable i tell u!! In Perth, we stayed at an acquaintance's place in Bentley. So at least the 3 days accommodation is well sorted. Our rough itinerary:
Perth City (1 night) --> Busselton (1 night) --> Stirling range (1 night) --> Perth City ( 2 nights) --> KL

Rough breakdown of our expenditure on accommodation and transport.
Flight tickets: RM 718.00 (including 20kg check-in luggage on the return flight)
Perth accommodations: AUD 100 each for the 3 nights
Busselton hostel: RM 359.95 for 4 people 1 night
Stirling range chalet: 687.95 for 4 people 1 night
Car rental: AUD 329 ++ for 6 days

Day 1 - touched down in Perth

We arrived at Perth airport around 6am. Quite early isn't it. Excited lah katakan.
Luckily one of us has a friend in Perth, so he kindly picked us up from airport and brought us to his house near Curtin Uni to freshen up before we get started with our packed holiday itinerary.

We had roti canai for breakfast as soon as we arrive in Perth in a cafe called 'Sarapan'.The taste is quite okay, considering it's RM12 per piece! Haha! So once we're full, got our comfy car, we're then headed to Caversham Wildlife Park. It took us about 30minutes to get there.

On a side note, I really recommend the car rental we got our's from. Simple, no hassle, no hidden fee. Excess reduction down to AUD300. No booking fee, no extra charge for unlimited km, non-UK/NZ/AUS licence, and additional drivers. And the staffs are nice too! We got ours from here:BUDGET car rental

Entrance fee for the Caversham Wildlife park is $25. it's not a very huge safari, but big enough to introduce you to the famous wildlife of western australia. I'm not an animal lover, so it doesn't excite me much, but the kangaroo and koala definitely got me interested!!

lazing around, while being fed lying. Good life mate!

Dont u just feel like hugging is this fluffy koala???

We missed all the show in the safari but i don't really mind. hehe! Next up in the itinerary is The Pinnacles. So we headed off up north before lunch as it took about 2hrs to get there. It is within the Nambung National park near the Cervantes town. With the clear blue sky, it's definitely a perfect weather to go there! Oh btw the entrance fee for The Pinnacles is $11. You can choose to either walk around the area or drive and park whenever u feel like stopping and take photo. We chose the latter :)

Beautiful view kan?!

You may wonder what are those pinnacles actually are. So did we! What i know is it is an amazing lime stones standing structure, formed by some natural processes in the dunes. More info, Mr Wiki  has it all for u :)

Still thinking that we need more dessert and dunes, we decided to head down to Lancelin Dunes for some sand boarding. But unfortunately, we arrived there at abt 5:30pm. It was getting dark and the sky looked gloomy already. A lady from the mart advised us to just come again tomorrow for sand-boarding. How sad!! So we just went to the dunes ourselves without the board.

White sand dunes. If only the sky was not so gloomy, it'd have been a spectacular view in the dessert!

By the time we reached home from Lancelin Dunes it was already around 8pm. Had a nice deliscious dinner at home, and cozy rest after the loooooong day before the roadtrip begins the next day.

Will be continued..

to break, or to hide

i like what i'm doing now. i like what i study now. not merely because it's a scientific medicine. but also coz it involves me working with people from all walks of life with all sorts of different stories and emotions. last week was my labour week. the short-lasting adrenaline rush during C-section was craaazy! the climax is when having to pull and press the tummy, but as soon as the baby pops out and cries, it's such a beautiful anti-climax. same goes to normal birth or instrumental assisted delivery. with the lady screaming in pain, and the worried husband sweating like a pig, wut do u do as a med student?haha initially i just literally froze there for a couple of seconds. it's not like i have experienced labour to give any tips. but yea u don't have to experience it first to empathize, so in a malu-malu kucing tone, i just copied the midwife, "u've done very well!" "just a little bit more, push!push!" (^_^) but when i really thought they've done really well, the midwife said it's the diarmorphine. heheh.

And now i'm on my gynae-oncology week. just imagine the intensity of the emotion inside the clinic every time a patient walks in. if it goes, "it's a cyst measuring 11x12x10cm, we can book u in for surgery to remove the ovary," then it's good news. at least. and if it goes, "it's a cancer of the womb. stage 1a, which confined to the inside of the womb. since u've had your menopause, the best option is to do hysterectomy with the removal of both of the tubes and ovaries (bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy or BSO)," it's worrying, but still quite fortunate. But what if, "we can no longer do surgery. as u know, it'll quickly come back. so the plan now is to give u radiotherapy for about 2 weeks. it's supposed to reduce the cancer cells a bit and shall give some EXTRA TIME. no cure to it. and we'll give u the cream for the infections." feel like the the whole sky just collapsed on u? yes that's exactly how i think this one lovely couple who's in their 80s felt when the oncologist explained the treatment plan. they've been married for 65 years. the wife is 88 years old. has an advanced basal cell carcinoma of the vulva that has spread to both of her groins. she has had a vulvectomy in the past. but the invincible cancerous cells came back and become even more aggressive. the treatment now is just palliative. looking at the lesions in her groins, u would expect her to be in great pain. coz the affected area got infected as well. but she looked totally fine!! and very independent!! she's more troubled by her back pain rather than the sticky lesions in her groins. she put up with it by placing some tissues at the affected area and wear pads. as said by the nurse there, "These elderlies, they just put up with things, they don't wanna be a burden to others," Ya Allah, my heart sank. And the husband, he looked even better!with an obvious effort to hold his tears, he asked the oncologist what did he mean by 'extra time'. and the wife quickly stopped him saying she didn't want to know about it. she just wanted to go with the treatment and take it as it comes along. the world felt so small, i felt so close to them...

p.s; some says childbirth is gory and hence dnt dare to look at it. no i think we have to see it, so we know dari mana kita datang and remind diri kita about who we really are - manusia hina yg dijadikan drpd tanah liat kering dan lumpur hitam (15:26). and remember, there lies the greatness of Allah to those who think. =)

mengai pidong, maedong makroup

translation: ambil 2 kali sehari, 2 biji setiap kali.

hehe..that's Khmer language. the longest sentence ive learnt during my 2 weeks stay in Cambodia. sorry if the meaning lari sket or the spelling isnt right.

Throughout the relief mission, there wasn't any moment tht i regret my decision to join the team. the new things ive learnt, the people i got to know there..everything is precious n priceless! i'll write more on the mission once i receive the pics frm the boss. but wht i wanna share now is about this one cambodian fren we know. seeing him, i would never have imagined he's the person tht needs to go against his family will for his idea to change the lives of his village hence pursuing medicine in USS in Phnom Penh and now in his 5th yr.(or is it 6th?cudnt remember)..btw medical course in Cambodia is 8 yrs.

He came from a rural village in one of the provinces in Cambodia where the main source of living is fishing. For the people around him, helping their parents to earn a living was considered to be more "useful" than studying. Most of the kids settled only til elementary. So when no one in the village likes to study, when the school is 20 km away, when parents and grandparents oppose, and when living is hard, he, Ghazali (or Rosaly) Yakop determined. (or in Khmer, Kop Roly). Even when he had to cycle 20 km to high skool, and also helped his father go fishing in the weekend, he never waver from his idea of the importance of education. He was then awarded a scholarship by the gov and became the first from his village to further in university. Hesitantly, he chose to become a doctor over a teacher.

The scholarship however only covered the tuition fee. Poor kampung boy needed to survive on his own feet in Phnom Penh city with estimated expenses of approximately 150$ p/month for food, books, accomd etc. His parents could only support around $50/60 p/month. And the rest was on him. So he did part time jobs. One at a local restaurant and the other one was distributing newspapers. Uni during the day, and work from 5 til night.
(can we possibly manage tht?) He also once worked with nurses in the hospital at night. he was so exhausted tht his lecturer once asked him why he often dozes off in class. (we also doze off in class but with a different reason kn?)

Once in a while, the thought of giving up came across his mind. But then he keeps reminding himself tht if he give it all up and go home now, he would still be the same guy who have nothing and the villagers would jst blame him for being stubborn n not following the common. And so he preserve res.

Then Alhamdulillah he got another scholarship from IDB (Islamic dev. bank) tht lessen a bit the burden off his shoulder. In 2nd yr, he got to know IMAC, Islamic Medical Assoc. Cambodia. They do mobile clinics in rural areas almost every week!
(IMAC is another story..later ye). Even with the scholarships he got, getting original new medical books is still beyond his reach. He only uses photostated books. In uni library, they have a very limited number of reference books. They can only read the books there in the library. Using only black and white photocopied books, whenever he needs diagrams or figures to refer (remember in medicine we really need pictures?!), he would go to the library, look at it there and read about the details at home. (Yes, let's count how MANY untouched/used reference books we have on our shelf).

Now he still do part time job since he needs more books and stuffs as he progresses. The smart n brilliant Roly now works as a tutor at a private college teaching biology. So every night, he needs to prepare for his lesson as well as his study. Being the stubborn n the rebellious one in his family, he decided not to go against his family in this one matter: marriage. He accepts with an open heart his match-make arranged by his mother and now engaged.

He has no time to think tht medicine is hard, coz to be able to study n live itself are hard enough for him.

-the end-

So now, are we in the position the complain n whine?? Ya Allah, place us among those who're grateful to You...ameen.

ok mungkin agak jakon sket but who cares!hehehe...lst yr frost je sikit2 je but this yr..lucky enuf, there's actually flakes falling heavily ok..im lovin it! for othrs this cn be quite a bothersome. some classes got canceled coz their lecturer got stuck in a heavy snow. some schools were closed and some events got canceled. some railway services in englnd got disrupted. and some airport runways were closed due to the bad weather.

but for some of us, we're happily struggling making our way to skul in the midst of the strong wind n heavy snow. enjoy playing snowball, making snowman..playing sledge etc.

anyhow, lucky us we have heaters to keep us warm in our home..and we have the super comfy duvets to sandwich or sushi our selves at nyte..if it's in Gaza...hurmmm..

hari bergusti..ker hari berkotak?

Boxing Day in England is regarded as a "shopping holiday" associated with the after-Christmas sales which is on the 26th December. On that day, most of the shopping complexes and retail outlets will have a massive price reduction.

Last yr i was in Istanbul during boxing day so didn't get the chance to experience the havoc.
So last friday, i was in London with 11 othr frens..semua dgn semangat waja to feeeel wut it was like to shop in London on Boxing Day. Apalagi, our target was definitely Oxford Street. Some says some shops open as early as 5am!And that includes NEXT!!Some also says that the street got real crowded starting from early morning! With that in mind, we went off at 5am!!Adoiilaa..

When we reached Oxford Street..most of the shops were still close. And unfortunately, one of us got the wrong info, NEXT will open at 5am on the 27th..not 26th! Grrr...!Wutever it is, there's already quite a few ppl walking around..probably those were the 'naive' n silly strange ppl who were on the same boat as us. And surprisingly, there's already a long queue outside the Selfridges & Co.!Weird iznit? Owh those ppl really didn't hav anything better to do...(ckp kt diri sniri jugaklah tu..hehe) =) It was cold..n i ws sleepy n starving!Off we went to have breakfast at McD...then around half past 6, we went out again to see if the no. of ppl on the street hav increased. and yes it had!And guess wut, we cud see another looooooooong queue outside Debenhams store..!Apalagi, we joined the crowd-la! We were let in by the security guard exactly at 7.As the name suggest, Boxing Day really is a day utk bergusti..survivor of the fitters!haha.. It was darn packed mcm sardine inside almost all the stores lah senang citer!Even on the street! It took me n Nad almost an hour queuing just to pay for one dress in Zara! When i reached MNG, Miss Selfridge n Topshop...all the "favourites" item were already gone..especially the small sizes one. The one left were all the sisa-sisa bit yg harga x berapa murah dah n size L ke atas..even if there were any, sah2 butang tercabut, kain koyak ke cz byk bertaburan on the floor. (At least end of year sale kat Sogo baju tak all over the place!)And the shelves kat Guess section in Selfridges&Co were empty!!(Adela tinggal 1 ke 2 handbags yg x best dah) Erghh....crazy..Adding to the madness, Sarah n Wani fell over aftr being pushed by the crowd when they're trying to rush entering River Island right aftr the door is opened at 9.

I can somehow understand how ppl cn get so agitated about it..But when it gets too crowded i kind of became demotivated and lost the mood to shop. It jst feels so stuffy..no air, no space n no time to think! It is somewhat a good experience though..hehe Now i knw how to mentally n physically prepare myself for nxt year's boxing day.(^_^)

thE ghoSt sTorY....

Anyone from boarding school must have been veryy familiar with ghost stories being passed on from one batch to another. From jst a ghost myth until the real encounter with the real thing, boarding school students sure know alot bout it. 5 yrs in boarding school, i did once see histeric person right in front of me. But Alhamdulillah mintak dijauhkan tuhan i never experienced seeing the real thing with my own naked eye. (Teringat the best thing watching Thai ghost story kat bilik tv when we got to jerit kuat2 beramai2 ngn peluk beramai2..lawak2..)

During my stay in London (few days back or was it yesterday?) we stayed in a hostel at Kensel Green area. And guess wut, our room was right next to this one huge christian cemetery! So on the Boxing Day eve (while the Mat Sallehs having their Christmas party downstairs), tah mcm mane someone brought up a story bout ghosts. So it brought back the "boarding school" memories..one by one stories were unveiled. 12 ppl in one room sharing the goosebumps..haha i tink most of the stories we heard on that nite was frm Temeng about Sains Dungun..frm a real story of a girl with Saka, a pontianak playing basketball in the middle of the late night, seeing a marching squad with no heads to a bunch of students with nothing better to do playing ghost prank on their seniors! As for my skul, some of the stories i remembered are the one when this one fella saw a "ghost" in the mirror aftr brushing teeth. And bout the tasik thing, also bout the "agreement" our ustaz have with the "thing". We also talked bout the "tindih" cases happened back in KMB where Sarah n Azie themselves have experienced.

When it's late, we decided to call it quits..everyone's got tired already..(sbenanye takot gile) n also we needed to get ready for boxing day the next day! Before going to bed, kena la buat "rombongan" ke toilet since sume dah takot...n nisya whose bed was right nxt to the window trus x nk tido on hers so she shared with azie.

The next day, we jst realized that last night was Khamis malam Jumaat...n Azie said she heard something unpleasant while sleeping(like footsteps frm outside our room)..Uuuuuu...

Wallahua'alam..

nOtTs gaMe 08...a lOnggg daY wiTh miXed feElinG

Notts Game is a phenomenon in UK&Eire..no joke, it's not a mere sporting event where u win, other ppl lose and the other got injured. Last year i participated as a netball player, and this year i was in the organizing committee. So what's happening throughout the show and what's behind the scene, i witnessed them all. (Well not all but most of them laa)And im loving it!

Preparation
We've started NMG preparation since May in Msia. That was when we struggled seeking 4 sponsorship, printing volunteers shirt, medal, banners etc. Frankly speaking, i didnt feel the heat of NMG just yet. It just felt like organizing another get together event. That's it. Then school started. We continued the preparation, even more vigorously nearer to the date. The nite b4, i slept at 3ish. Some slept at 4ish doing sepanduk etc! Then the D-day arrived, it was the show time! I didn't hear my alarm clock beeping, and woke up 550ish in the morning! hahaha..!Alhamdulillah it went well with no major complaint or unpleasant situation..wut's more, ppl are very satisfied with it and enjoyed the day!Alhamdulillah sangat2..Then it ended gloriously with the dinner with Deputy of High Commissioner, MSD officers, players, volunteers and the coms. Then i was like, "Is that it?Well, need to get my daily life in place back then"

Experience
For this year's NMG, the whole Portland Building was my 'baby'. Yes it was indeed. I was in charged for every single thing in Portland. If it's a mess then im all screwed up. if it's collapsed due to overcrowded then i'll be dead first. hahaha..There's quite a no. of probs in realizing the Msian Food Fest this year, but Alhamdulillah with the supportive coms and co-operative food stalls operators, we managed to overcome it all. For the helping hands from MSD, thanks so much!!And i'm also so thankful everything went smoothly the other day. A MILLION THANKS TO ALL VOLUNTEERS(without u guys, there's no way this event cud be a huge success)AND POSTGRADS!! Also Kevin the Porter, and Mark the Chef. They're very helpful n nice!!And the Runners, we've troubled u guys so much on that day..sori n thank you!!Not to forget, the crowd for making the event merrier!I was so surprised to see Msian queuing to buy Nasi Lemak, drinks frm NMS stall etc!!i really didn't expect this but hey look, we're goooood!! There surely be a few things i missed or overlooked on that day. For any wrongdoings, ill feelings and misunderstandings..I DO APOLOGIZE.

Mixed Feeling
Being part of this NMG, i really learnt alot! i especially learnt that not everyone is the same. Some are easily pissed off and some are easily pleased. To cross path with lots of ppl, i really am feel lucky and grateful. I was so nervous the whole day, hoping and praying nothing would go wrong to the extend i missed my breakfast n lunch. I didnt even knw how the volunteers lunch that i ordered myself tasted like. Thanks to Kak Tim n Kak Fida 4 giving me Nasi Lemak, some choc cakes, goreng pisang n rojak buah. By the end of the day, i was so exhausted i cud barely think straight n keep my eyes open. But most importantly, i was very..very..very happy. That made me forget all the tiredness and hunger! But there's also a few things i regret, i didn't get to exclusively entertain my frens who came ovr frm Ireland, Iqa n Mizah..Sorry!And Nab n Farah frm Bristol, sorry weh laen kali dtg lg sure layanan first class! And other few frens oso..sorry!Then i also met my long lost classmate when we're in standard 6, Melissa for like 5 seconds..isk3..sob3..I said to her later, gimme a sec coz i had to run an errand. Then i just lost her!very sad...

There was twice during the day that i almost fainted hearing some news...1st: When i called Dessi Express asking 4 food 4 volunteers, the owner Ayoob said,"Was it today?I thought the Msian Game is tomorrow" With the nearly shouting voice, jaw dropped and wide-opened eyes i replied "No, it's today!8th of Nov?" After exchanging a few more lines, then he said,"Im joking, they're on their way..will be there in 5-10mins" WTH rite?Lawak yg sungguh tak kena pada masanya.
Then another one, Kevin the porter. I said, "Is everything alright, Kevin?"Then he said,"We need to shut everything down.Just no more, that's it for the day." Again, with the same tone and reaction as earlier i replied,"What? Why??"
"Haha, easy girl..jokin. Everything's alright really. It's good"
Gosh, terima kasihlah sbb kasi lawak selingan pada hari2 seperti ini yerr..!!

Evryone has their own "history" or "story" with Notts Game 08..it brings tears to sme ppl, it brings anger n hatred to some othr ppl, it also connects ppl together in every way. And for some reasons, NMG 08 is special to me..i hope it is to u too. Im proud to be part of it, an am honoured to to be working with great Nottinghamians in fruitfully realizing this event. What a great Msian community we are!

With that, let's re-organize our daily life..n STUDY!hehehe :)

life as med student so far....^ ^

it's been more than a month since im a medical student which i've been really wanted not so long time ago.well so far i wud say,it's pretty plain.no spice.^^ most of my classes r lecture n so to say,STUDY. well of course!wut i really mean is, it's quite boring n tiring u see to be stucked in a lecture theater for 2 hrs..n being human, i can only fully concentrate on the first 40 mins of the lecture..so where goes the remaining 20mins?A.Blankly staring on the slides or the lecturer itself B.Daydreaming(which most of the time)C.Blurrrrrrrr D.Shift my mind to think bout something else (it's different frm daydreaming ok cz a bit of thinking is being put there)^^

the quite exciting part so far is jst the role playing class (in which i quite screwed up mine-->y did SHE sooo irritating!!!) n the GP visit..looking forward to my turn to interviewing patient next week..hopes everything'll go smoothly n i won't sound like a know-nothing medical student.

my study is quite OFF the rythm now..i dnt know y which actually i do knw y..cz im sooo too lazy now..since when i've become like this???huh!i jst feel like there's no pushing factor.(hope u knw wut i mean)im not the type who needs reason to study like yea i must study to please my parent n so on..but it's jst u knw,cnt get the beat jst soo yet n im afraid it'l get tooo late til i catch up the pace.

hurm...i tink i need to figure out something that can push me down to my study desk..
having GOAL in mind is NOT enough..i hav to WRITE it down!!!!!WTH didn't i realize that before..hurm..hope it'll work
tata^^
